Terms of Service
Last updated: 15 May 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Talatal Tales website at talatal.com and the Talatal Tales Android app (together, the "Service"), operated by Talatal Tales ("we", "our", or "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts. If we discover an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
2. Your Account
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate information when registering and to keep it up to date.
- You must not share your account with anyone or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.
- Notify us immediately at support@talatal.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
3. User Content & Intellectual Property
You own your work
You retain full copyright and all intellectual property rights over novels, chapters, comments, and any other content you create and post on the Service ("Your Content"). We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
Licence you grant us
By posting Your Content, you grant Talatal Tales a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, distribute, reproduce, and promote Your Content on the Service and in marketing materials (for example, featuring a story on our social media). This licence ends when you remove Your Content or delete your account, except for copies we may have made for backup or caching purposes, which will be deleted within 30 days.
Cross-posting freedom
You are free to simultaneously publish the same work on other platforms (Pratilipi, Wattpad, Royal Road, Amazon KDP, etc.). We will never restrict you to publishing exclusively on Talatal Tales.
Your warranties
By posting Your Content, you confirm that you own it or have the necessary rights to post it, and that it does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
4. Prohibited Content & Conduct
You must not post or do any of the following:
- Plagiarism — posting content written by someone else without their permission and without clear attribution.
- Piracy — reproducing content scraped or copied from Talatal Tales or any other platform and re-posting it as your own.
- Hate speech — content that promotes violence or discrimination against individuals or groups based on religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Mislabelled adult content — publishing sexually explicit or mature content without setting the appropriate content rating ("Mature") in your novel settings.
- Harassment or threats — targeting other users with abuse, threats, or coordinated harassment (including review bombing).
- Spam or manipulation — creating fake accounts, artificially inflating reads, votes, or ratings, or posting unsolicited promotional content.
- Illegal content — anything that violates applicable Indian law, including content prohibited under the Information Technology Act 2000 and IT Rules 2021.
5. Content Moderation & Takedowns
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms at any time, without prior notice. We may also suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate these Terms.
Copyright complaints (grievance mechanism)
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, email our Grievance Officer at grievance@talatal.com with: (a) a description of the original work, (b) the URL of the infringing content, (c) your contact details, and (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorised. We will acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days, in accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.
If your content is removed and you believe this was a mistake, contact support@talatal.com to appeal.
6. Account Deletion
How to delete your account
You can delete your account at any time by going to Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app or on the website. Alternatively, email us at support@talatal.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and we will process it within 5 business days.
What happens when you delete
- Your profile and personal data are removed within 24 hours.
- Your published novels and chapters are soft-deleted immediately (no longer visible to readers) and permanently purged within 30 days.
- Your comments and reviews are anonymised — the content may remain but your name and identity are removed.
- Deletion is irreversible after the 30-day grace period. We cannot recover your content after that point.
For full details on data deletion, see our Privacy Policy.
7. Termination by Us
We may suspend or permanently ban your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or cause harm to other users or the platform. Where possible, we will warn you before taking action. Banned users may appeal by emailing support@talatal.com. We aim to respond to appeals within 10 business days.
8. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data. By using the Service, you agree to our privacy practices.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. Your use of the Service is at your own risk.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Talatal Tales shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes your acceptance. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
